Govt appoints Sreeram Sambasiva Rao as excise commissioner

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has appointed Sreeram Sambasiva Rao IAS, who was an officer on special duty in the office of former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, as excise commissioner. The changes were made in the post that IPS officers received.

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) had ordered that IAS officers should be appointed to the posts of IAS cadre, excise commissioner. IAS association had approached the tribunal questioning the appointment of ADGP M R Ajith Kumar as the excise commissioner.

The IAS association had approached CAT alleging that posts like excise commissioner, IMG director and Kila Director are cadre posts of IAS officers and are given to retirees and some IPS officers. It was only after that that the order was issued to give this post to an IAS officer. Former commissioner M R Ajith Kumar was removed from the post following the order.
