KOCHI: A dispute over a glass of liquor at a bar in Palluruthy ended in a stabbing incident, leaving a man seriously injured. The victim has been identified as Vaishakh (40), a tipper lorry driver and native of Konam in Palluruthy.

According to police, Vaishakh suffered deep injuries to his abdomen and is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Kalamassery Medical College Hospital.

The accused, Naveen (40), a private bus owner, has been arrested by the Palluruthy Police in connection with the incident.

The incident took place at a bar in Palluruthy on Thursday night. Police said Vaishakh had bought liquor from the counter and kept it aside to drink later. Around the same time, Naveen also bought liquor from the bar. However, Naveen allegedly consumed the drink kept by Vaishakh by mistake.

When Vaishakh questioned him, an argument broke out between the two. The verbal fight soon turned into a physical altercation, during which Naveen allegedly attacked Vaishakh with a folding knife.

Vaishakh was first rushed to a nearby private hospital. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to the General Hospital and later to another private hospital in Kochi. He was eventually admitted to Kalamassery Medical College after his condition became critical.

Police arrested Naveen after recording the statement of Vaishakh’s wife. Investigators have also received information that the two men had previous disputes as well.
