Monsoon to arrive by Wednesday; rain intensifies in Kerala, alert in nine districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall across Kerala for the next five days and has issued orange and yellow alerts in several districts. A yellow alert has been issued today for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts. The IMD has also indicated that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala by Wednesday.

The IMD has issued an orange alert in these districts, warning of the possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places. According to the department, "very heavy rainfall" refers to rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within a 24-hour period.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert in these districts, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Heavy rainfall refers to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected in various parts of the state during this period.
