BENGALURU: A popular restaurant in Bengaluru was sealed by authorities after they served cow meat as mutton. Jiju Alexandar (45) and Sibu K B (43), both Malayalees who ran Kayaloram Restaurant near Budigere Cross, Bommanahalli, were arrested in connection with the incident.

An FIR was filed in the incident following a complaint from the head constable of Avalahalli police station. After receiving a tip-off that the hotel served cow meat, the constable posed as a customer and visited the hotel. After speaking with patrons, evidence was obtained that cow meat was being served to customers.

The FIR also alleged that the owners stored cow meat in the restaurant.

A case was registered under Section 5 (restriction on transport of cattle) and 12 (penalties) of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020. A report suggested that a preliminary inspection found the meat to be beef, not mutton. Laboratory test results are awaited.
