Tragedy in Kozhikode: Pregnant woman burnt to death as moving car catches fire
KOZHIKODE: In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman was burnt to death after the car she was travelling in caught fire while in motion at Cheruvannur, Perambra. The deceased has been identified as Sona, wife of Lalu, a native of Kakkaramukku, Kozhikode. Lalu sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital.
The accident occurred around 9:00 PM on Friday while the couple was returning home from a hospital visit.
According to eyewitnesses, Lalu noticed smoke emanating from the front of the car and immediately stepped out to check. However, the vehicle’s central locking system reportedly engaged, trapping Sona inside. Within moments, the car exploded with a loud noise and was engulfed in flames.
Locals rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the fire with water, but their efforts were in vain. It was only after the Fire and Rescue Services arrived and completely extinguished the blaze that Sona's body was recovered from the back seat of the car.
Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, with preliminary suspicions pointing toward a short circuit in the vehicle’s electrical system.
