CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu politics will intrigue analysts in the coming days after BJP initiated steps to orchestrate a big move ahead of the assembly polls. Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai, considered as the crowd puller of the party, reportedly received an emergency call from Union minister Piyush Goyal. The phone call made Annamalai take a helicopter back to Chennai to attend the BJP core committee meeting.

According to news website The Federal, the party is pondering options to field the fiery Annamalai from the Modakurichi seat in Erode district. The development continues to befuddle political experts, as Annamalai had earlier conveyed no interest in contesting elections this time.

BJP believes that fielding the former IPS officer would help the party grab an additional three percentage votes, which would prove pivotal. Annamalai’s knack for attracting votes from urban voters and youngsters has been proven before.

There were reports that the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief was dejected over being sidelined by the party over the dismal performance during the LS polls in 2024.
