THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Public Works Minister P. A. Mohammed Riyas has announced that the Wayanad tunnel road project has received final clearance. He said that the Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi tunnel road, one of Kerala’s dream projects that is progressing at a fast pace, has now received Stage 2 clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The minister added that this is the final approval required for the construction of the tunnel road. He shared the update through a Facebook post.

'Happy to share the news that the Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi tunnel road, Kerala's dream project that is progressing at a fast pace, has now received Stage 2 clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. This is the final approval required for the construction of the tunnel road,' the minister wrote on his Facebook page.

The tunnel road is planned to begin at Marippuzha in the Thiruvambady constituency of Kozhikode district and end near Kalladi in the Kalpetta constituency of Wayanad. The project includes a route from Anakkampoyil to Marippuzha, then across a bridge over the river to Swargamkunnu, and from there a tunnel of about seven kilometres to Kalladi. To access the tunnel road, the existing Public Works Department road from National Highway 766 at Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode district will be used. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had inaugurated the construction of the tunnel road on August 31 last year.
