Panic, safety violation and tragedy; Moments before cruise ship capsized in Bargi Dam reservoir
JABALPUR: More footage of the cruise boat accident that occurred in the Bargi Dam reservoir in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh was released. The footage shows water entering the boat and petrified tourists searching for the life jacket. Shaken tourists could be seen rummaging through the boat for jackets, which were in short supply. This led to allegations of a major security lapse. The law requires that all passengers be given life jackets before boarding water-borne vehicles and that they be properly worn. However, a preliminary inspection in Jabalpur found that even this basic rule was being violated.
Another video also showed the tourists screaming at the sight of water rising in the boat. The visuals also showed a mother tightly hugging her toddler minutes before the tragedy.
It was said that when the dead bodies were recovered, the mother’s hands were still clutched tightly on her child, giving a harrowing representation of the tragedy. However, officials confirmed that the news and the images circulating are AI-generated. Officials commented that when the bodies were recovered, the mother and her child were lying separately.
There were more than 40 tourists on the cruise ship that crashed. However, only 29 people were given tickets. There are also doubts that allowing an overcrowded boat to enter the dam despite an orange alert being issued in the area was a safety violation.
