'Severe ego'; Abhishek Bachchan opens up on marriage with Aishwarya Rai

Actor couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are among the most popular pairs in Indian cinema. For some time, there have been rumours that the two are facing issues in their relationship and may be heading for a separation. Amid this, Abhishek Bachchan has spoken openly in an interview about his marriage and raising his daughter.

“When my parents got married, my mother was a bigger star than my father. So, it doesn’t matter who is more successful. Partnership is what matters. I've known Aishwarya since the early days of my career. My second film was with her, and she is the actress I have worked with the most. Back then, we were not in love. We were good friends. In fact, we have always been good friends," Abhishek said.

He added that their engagement and marriage were always based on partnership. “We never had conversations like ‘I will earn and you take care of the house.’ It flows very naturally. For me, I think it comes from severe ego. I say ego because I am not the kind of person who believes somebody else has to give up or stop running for me to win that race. And that is my mental structure. I would never want to be in a relationship where my wife has to stop doing something just so I can feel more masculine. Fortunately, my wife also thinks the same way,” Abhishek said.

Abhishek and Aishwarya got married in 2007, and fans have long considered them an ideal couple for nearly two decades.
