'He smashed my daughter's head against a wall, she was in coma for nearly a year'; first wife's family accuses Ashkar of years of violence
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More disturbing details have emerged in connection with the incident where a one-and-a-half- year-old baby was brutally beaten to death by his stepfather in Nedumangad. Police revealed that the child was subjected to severe assault by his stepfather, Ashkar. Meanwhile, the family of Ashkar's first wife, Amina, has come out raising severe allegations against him.
According to the family, Amina suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by Ashkar. They claim her skull was fractured in the assault and that police failed to take action despite multiple complaints. Amina is currently undergoing rehabilitation treatment at the Medical College Hospital. The allegations were made by Amina's mother, Shajila Beevi, during an interview with a private television channel.
Ashkar and Amina got married after a love relationship. While Amina's family initially agreed to the marriage, they later opposed it after learning about Ashkar's background. However, Amina left her home to live with Ashkar. After a few months of living together, Ashkar began demanding dowry and frequently assaulted Amina.
"He smashed my daughter's head against a wall and kicked her in the stomach. She was subjected to both physical and mental abuse. He tried to kill her several times," Shajila Beevi alleged.
She said Amina's current condition is the result of serious head injuries she sustained during the alleged assaults. Shajila also accused Ashkar's mother and sister of supporting the abuse.
"It was neighbours who informed us after hearing my daughter's screams," she said.
Shajila further claimed that despite filing complaints at the Nedumangad Police Station on six occasions, no action was taken against Ashkar. Amina reportedly remained in a coma for nearly a year and regained consciousness only recently. The family has also alleged that Ashkar may have been involved in the death of Shajila's younger son.
"He repeatedly threatened to kill my son. Later, he was found drowned under mysterious circumstances," Shajila claimed.
According to the family, Ashkar began living with Akhila without formally ending his relationship with Amina. Ashkar is currently the prime accused in the murder of Akhila's one-and-a-half-year-old son, Arshad. During police questioning, he reportedly confessed that he assaulted the child because the toddler cried while being fed. The case has shocked Kerala, with investigators continuing to examine allegations of abuse and violence linked to the accused.
