The verdict was given by the Pathanamthitta District Additional Sessions Court. In February 2023, Sreekumar killed his neighbour Ananthu on suspicion of having an affair with his wife. The police found that Sreekumar had beaten Ananthu to death and pushed him into the canal.
On the day of the incident, Sreekumar waited to get Ananthu alone, who was consuming liquor with his friends inside an estate. After his friends returned, Ananthu started walking while talking on the phone when Sreekuamr came from behind and beat him to death with an iron rod. After that, the body was dumped in a canal about 400 meters from the scene of the incident. The police found the iron rod and Ananthu's mobile phone abandoned by the accused in the canal.
