THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police will inform the court that the aviation security case filed against Youth Congress leaders for allegedly attempting to assassinate then-Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on a plane will not stand. Although the central government had earlier made it clear that this would not stand, the previous Left government did not yield. The new report is being submitted after the UDF government came to power.

The aviation case will be removed, and a report will be submitted to the District Sessions Court soon.

Even after four years, a charge sheet was not filed in the case. Youth Congress and Congress leaders Farzeen Majeed, Naveen Kumar, Sudeep James and K.S. Sabarinathan are the accused.

Charges, including attempted murder, were filed. IPC 120-B (conspiracy), 332 (preventing the execution of an act), 307 (attempt to murder), 34 (organised crime), Section 11A of the Aircraft Act, Section 3(1) (a) of the Aircraft Rules, and 22 sections were charged. Of these, the sections of the Aircraft Act will be excluded.

The incident related to the case took place on June 13, 2022. The case was triggered by a protest by Youth Congress activists Farzeen Majeed and R.K. Naveen Kumar on an Indigo flight from Kannur to Thiruvananthapuram.

The Valiyathura police registered a case based on the complaint of E.P. Jayarajan, who was on the flight with Pinarayi. The private case filed by the accused alleging that E.P. Jayarajan assaulted them is under consideration by the court. Meanwhile, the accused Youth Congress members are planning to approach the Home Department demanding a re-investigation into the case.
