Former Thrissur Collector Dr A Kowsigan appointed Kerala's Chief Electoral Officer
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr. A. Kowsigan IAS has been appointed as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala. The official order confirming his appointment has been formally issued. Prior to this new assignment, Dr. Kowsigan was serving as the Secretary of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Department. He succeeds the former Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Rathan U. Kelkar, who has been reassigned as the Secretary to the Chief Minister. Dr. Kowsigan is a 2009-batch IAS officer from the Kerala cadre. Originally hailing from Hosur in Tamil Nadu, his professional journey began in the field of veterinary science. Before entering the civil services, he worked as a veterinary surgeon and also served as an assistant professor at the Chennai Veterinary University. Throughout his administrative career, Dr. Kowsigan has held several key positions, notably delivering commendable service as the District Collector of both Idukki and Thrissur districts. Remarkably, he has had the distinction of serving as the District Collector of Thrissur twice. As the newly appointed Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Kowsigan will step into a highly responsible role. His upcoming responsibilities will include overseeing the crucial updates to the state's voters' list and managing all forthcoming electoral proceedings in Kerala.
