KURUKSHETRA: The protest at the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra in Haryana has intensified after a student committed suicide. With this, the NIT decided to close the campus for the next 17 days. Last Thursday, a second-year AI and Data Science student from Bihar committed suicide. In today's case, the number of students who have committed suicide in two months has reached four. The students demanded a CBI probe and blamed academic pressure behind the increasing suicides on the campus. The protesters shared serious concerns about the pressure piled on them.

A Telangana native committed suicide on February 16, a Haryana native from Nuh on March 31 and a Sirsa native on March 8. Angry students gathered at the main gate of the institute and staged a protest. They raised slogans against the authorities and demanded strict action. Following the protest, the main gate was closed. Traffic in and out of the campus was disrupted. The students said that they would continue the protest until their demands, including a CBI probe into the case, are met.

The students alleged that some teachers are putting unnecessary academic pressure on and mentally harassing students. They alleged that strict behaviour and mental harassment are putting many students under extreme stress. The students demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the cases. They also demanded that strict action be taken against those found guilty.
