Govt to recall gunmen allocated to CPM leaders; Satheesan, Chennithala reject police escort

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will soon recall the gunmen allocated to CPM leaders during the LDF government due to security threats. The figures of gunmen have been collected at the police headquarters. There are some CPM leaders in the state having two gunmen. E P Jayarajan, P Jayarajan and Kadakampally Surendran have two gunmen each. Of these, only P Jayarajan has a security threat. Even the CPM councilor who lost the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections has been allocated gunmen without any specific reasons.

It is believed that around five hundred gunmen have been allocated for various leaders in the state. Caretaker Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been allocated Z category security. However, he is not using this security after the election results were announced. However, those on his security duty have not reported back to the police.

The chief minister and ministers in the state have not been decided yet. Even before that, Congress leaders are pressuring their close associates to be appointed as their gunmen. Meanwhile, Ramesh Chennithala and VD Satheesan were granted police escorts as they were being considered for the post of chief minister. However, both of them have returned the police escort.
