AN Rajan passes away

THRISSUR: AITUC state vice president, CPI state control commission member and Thrissur district executive member AN Rajan (72) has passed away. He was under treatment for Covid at Amala Hospital died at around 10 am yesterday following a heart attack. Funeral will be held at 10 am on Tuesday at Cheruthuruthi Punyatheeram in accordance with Covid protocol. A public viewing won't be held.


He was the former chairman of the Development Standing Committee of the Thrissur District Panchayat and the state president of the Electricity Workers Federation. Born in Vadukunnapuzha in Ernakulam's Piravom as Ambattumyalil Narayanan's son, Rajan joined the Communist Party. After passing Diploma in Civil Engineering from MTI in Thrissur, he joined KSEB. He retired as a sub engineer at Viyyoor substation. AN Rajan, who was active in the trade union movement, became the head of several trade unions.

He was instrumental in developing the Kerala Electricity Workers' Federation into a strong organization of workers in the power sector. He led the long struggles of the electricity workers. He suffered suspension and imprisonment. He has worked as All India Electricity Employees Federation Deputy General Secretary, IT & Allied Employees Union State President, Seetharam Textiles Employees Union President, Kerala Lakshmi Mill Employees Union President, Kerala Feeds Employees Union President, Kerala Private Hospital and Pharmacy Workers' Union President, Appollo Tyres Workers' Union President, a member of the First Syndicate of the Kerala Technical University, a member of the ESI Kerala Regional Board and a member of the Hospital Workers' Minimum Wage Committee. He won from Mulankunnathukavu Division to District Panchayat in 2000-2005. He lived in Kolazhi. Wife: Dr. Girija (Retd. Professor, Vaidyarathnam Ayurveda College, Ollur) Children: Harirajan and Sreerajan. Daughters-in-law: Veena and Arsha.
