Singer Edava Basheer passes away, dies after collapsing while singing in a music concert

ALAPPUZHA: Film playback singer 78-year old Edava Basheer has passed away. Basheer was rushed to a hospital after he collapsed during a music concert but his life could not be saved. He collapsed while singing at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Blue Diamonds Orchestra, Alappuzha.

Police rushed Basheer to a nearby private hospital from Pathirappally but he died shortly afterwards.

Basheer was born in Edava in Thiruvananthapuram district. Abdul Aziz was his father. He studied in Edava till eighth standard. Later his family moved to Kollam and he studied at Christuraj School, Pattathanam till standard 10. He passed Gana Bhushanam in 1972 from Swathi Thirunal Music Academy.

Basheer's first film song is 'Vennavayikkumen viralthumpile....' sung with S Janaki in 1978 under the music direction of AT Ummer. The song 'Azhithiramalakal Azhakinte Malakal ..' sung with Vani Jayaram in film 'Mukuvane Snehicha Bhootham' under the music direction of KJ Joy was a hit at that time. He continued to get opportunities in cinema but turned it down as he could not stay away from music concerts. He started the Kollam Sangeethalaya five decades ago for concerts.
