Ajit Agarkar gets confused by questions about team selection; video goes viral on social media
NEW DELHI: BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was caught off guard by questions related to the selection of the Indian cricket team. Agarkar went into a brief moment of oblivion after host and actor Danish Sait threw a few questions during a recent awards night. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Danish Sait approached Agarkar with questions after the footage of India's 2026 T20 World Cup victory was shown on stage. "When you look at the Indian team, do you feel how good a team we have selected?"
Agarkar, who was a little taken aback by the unexpected question, replied with a smile: "I have to be very careful about what I say. Often things can be taken out of context and misinterpreted,"
Danish immediately came up with the next question:
“This is a country of over 1.4 billion people. What ways have you found to tell the players, 'Sorry mate, there's no place in the team this time, let's see in the next series'?' Hearing this, Agarkar burst out laughing and said, 'I'm still looking for ways to do that. It's something I think about every day,' Agarkar replied.
However, it was the last question by Danish that went viral on social media. 'Which is the most innovative way?' Danish asked. Without further ado, Agarkar quickly dodged Danish's questions: 'Don't bother me like this. This is not the time for that. Another team selection is coming up in the next few days,' Agarkar said.
Earlier, while speaking at a press conference, Agarkar had cleared the air about wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. He was responding to questions about Pant being replaced as vice-captain for the one-off Test against Afghanistan in favour of KL Rahul and his omission from the ODI team. Agarkar said that the team want Pant to remain focused on becoming an incredible Test player.
