THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP has won three seats in the Assembly elections, marking its best-ever performance in Kerala. This is the first time the party has secured victory in three constituencies in the state. After wins in Nemom by Rajeev Chandrasekhar and in Chathannoor by B B Gopakumar, the BJP also won in Kazhakoottam. V Muraleedharan secured victory there with a narrow margin of 126 votes.

In the Nemom constituency, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar won by a margin of 3,800 votes. Nemom was the seat where the BJP first opened its account in the Kerala Assembly in 2016 through O Rajagopal. In 2021, LDF’s V. Sivankutty had defeated the BJP in Nemom.

The BJP also recorded a surprise win in Chathannoor, where B B Gopakumar defeated LDF candidate R Rajendran by 4002 votes. Gopakumar secured a total of 46,567 votes.

Earlier, some exit polls had predicted that the BJP could win up to 14 seats. However, after polling, the party itself had expected to win only two seats. The victory in three seats has come as a surprise even to the party.
