Govt’s ‘U Turn’ in Sabarimala women entry, to protect rituals
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has changed its stand on the entry of women in Sabarimala. TThe government is presently taking a stand to protect the traditional rituals. This will be informed to the Supreme Court tomorrow. An agreement was reached in this regard at the CPM state secretariat that convened here today. The issue is likely to be discussed in the cabinet meeting convened this evening. The Travancore Devaswom Board had earlier changed its stance. The board had passed a resolution not to allow women in Sabarimala.
President K Jayakumar had earlier clarified that the Travancore Devaswom Board had never supported the entry of women. Individuals may have supported it. What was informed in 2020 was the lawyer's stand. The board has no confusion in this regard. The Devaswom Board was formed to protect temples and its rituals. Will oppose the present order in the Supreme Court.
The rituals existing for ages over the entry of women should continue. The board's stand will be informed in an affidavit before March 14, as directed by the Supreme Court. Whether the verdict should be reviewed is not within the purview of the board and it is under the court. Jayakumar also said that the board has been with the believers from the beginning.
