Summer heat coming to an end? heavy rain from today, yellow alert in four districts
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department has warned that strong summer rains are likely to continue in the state today. Rainfall is expected to persist for the next five days, with chances of isolated heavy showers. In some areas, rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm may occur within four hours.
A yellow alert has been issued today for the districts of Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, and Wayanad. The weather department has advised people to remain cautious as there is a possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds. Tomorrow, heavy rainfall is expected in seven districts of central and northern Kerala. A yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur.
The weather department also indicated that the southwest monsoon may arrive early this year. It is expected to reach the Kerala coast between May 18 and May 25. The current high temperatures are heating the atmosphere, causing air to rise and pull in moisture-laden winds from the sea more quickly, which may lead to an early onset of the monsoon.
