Another blow for CSK after IPL exit; Sanju among players fined lakhs
AHMEDABAD: Chennai Super Kings were knocked out of the IPL playoff race after suffering a heavy defeat against Gujarat Titans on Thursday. Chennai lost the match by 89 runs against the Shubman Gill-led side. Following the defeat, the team was also fined a huge amount by the IPL Governing Council for maintaining a slow over rate.
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was fined Rs 24 lakh. Since this was Chennai’s second slow over-rate offence of the season, all other members of the playing XI, including the impact player, will also have to pay a fine of either Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lower.
Chasing a massive target of 230 runs, Chennai got off to a poor start. Malayali player Sanju Samson’s golden duck came as a major setback for the team. Shivam Dube, who scored 47 runs off 17 balls, was the only batter who showed some resistance. With the rest of the batting lineup failing to perform, Chennai collapsed to a heavy defeat. CSK were bowled out for 140 runs in 13.4 overs.
