‘Inhuman and unpardonable’: CM Vijay demands fast-track chargesheet in Coimbatore rape-murder case
COIMBATORE: Chief Minister Vijay has strongly condemned the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore, terming the act "inhuman and unpardonable." The Chief Minister’s statement follows a tense standoff where the grieving family refused to retrieve the child's body from the morgue until they received an explicit assurance of justice from the government.
Expressing his grief on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister wrote, "The violence perpetrated against a ten-year-old girl in Coimbatore is deeply shocking and heartbreaking. Such merciless, subhuman crimes have absolutely no place in our society."
He further confirmed that the law enforcement agencies have already apprehended two suspects, identified as Karthik and Mohan Raj.
"The police have been strictly instructed to fast-track the investigation and submit a comprehensive chargesheet at the earliest," the Chief Minister added, reiterating his government's zero-tolerance policy and promising stringent action against perpetrators of crimes against women and children.
The horrific incident came to light on Friday evening when the young girl's body, bearing visible injury marks, was discovered near the Kannampalayam lake in the Sulur area of Coimbatore. According to police reports, the victim had gone missing on Thursday evening after leaving her home to buy groceries from a local shop.
While a missing persons complaint had been registered by the family immediately after her disappearance, the search ended in tragedy. Investigating officers revealed that the two accused allegedly intercepted the child, abducted her, and subsequently assaulted and murdered her.
An intensive investigation is currently underway as authorities build a tight legal case against the detained suspects.
