‘That strategy helped TVK win’: M K Stalin opens up about Vijay’s election success
CHENNAI: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said social media and children played a major role in the victory of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor-politician Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Stalin said the DMK failed to realise in advance how election campaigns carried out through children and social media platforms like Instagram could influence voters.
“Campaigns by children using social media platforms, including Instagram, had a strong impact on mothers and grandmothers. The party failed to properly identify the influence of such social media-driven campaigns,” the DMK chief said.
He added that the party would develop new strategies to counter such campaigns in the future. Stalin also said that although the DMK could not return to power, the party would continue to remain a major political force in Tamil Nadu politics.
According to Stalin, many welfare schemes introduced by the previous DMK government have been retained by the TVK government. He said this proves that the party’s policies are still important for the administration of the state. Stalin further stated that the DMK has already started preparations for the next election soon after the announcement of the results. He said the party would remain alert in future elections and plans to use modern social media techniques to connect more effectively with voters.
