CBSE re-evaluation portal still a joke; concern grows among students
NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education failed their promise to set up the re-evaluation portal for Class 12 answer sheets. The portal, which has been facing frequent disruptions since the 19th of last month, was promised to be fully operational from Monday. Although the revaluation option was unavailable over the past few days, the portal remained accessible. On Monday, even accessing the portal was not possible.
Thousands of students did not get the marks they deserved due to the huge drop in paper scanning in the evaluation. There is ambiguity among students amid difficulty in applying for revaluation.
CBSE and the central government had claimed that the application portal was fully functional after fixing the shortcomings with the help of IIT and cyber experts. However, in reality, the portal remains inactive, exposing the jarring discrepancy existing within the organisation.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should resign or be sacked by the Prime Minister, said Digvijaya Singh, chairman of the Parliament's Education Standing Committee. The committee had examined the NEET irregularities and CBSE issues on Monday. He said that all parties have taken the same stand on the issue.
1. The allegation that the future of lakhs of students was being sacrificed for a contracting company has become strong. Hyderabad-based Coempt Edutech was entrusted with the on-screen marking (OSM) scanning of answer sheets, removing even the provision of blacklisting in case of failure. The performance bank guarantee provision was also relaxed.
2. The advertisement for the CBSE contract had provisions such as blacklisting, forfeiture of bank guarantee, and termination of the contract for serious defaults. The penalty and termination of the contract have been retained, and the blacklist provision has been removed.
3. Corrections have also been made in the tender so that being blacklisted earlier does not become a disqualification. It has also been revealed that Coempt's income figures were watered down to get the tender.
4. The company was awarded the contract on December 5, 2025, for the examination held in February-March 2026. Coempt Edutech was Globarina Technologies, previously involved in the Telangana Intermediate examination scandal in 2019. That company was blacklisted in 2019.
There are allegations of close ties between Radhakrishnan Jayaraman, the director of Coempt Company, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Police arrested and removed activists of the All India Students Association who were protesting outside the Education Ministry in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
The Cockroach Janata Party announced a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on June 6, demanding the resignation of the minister.
