Betrayal in uniform? How CPM workers got inside help to escape police net
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police failed to immediately detain the CPM protesters who attacked ED officials during the raid at former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence. According to reports, party workers had received clear instructions not to surrender to the police. There are also indications that some members within the police force may have helped the protesters evade arrest.
Initially, the workers were directed to escape to the AKG Centre. However, Special Branch inputs reveal that they later received a phone call warning them of potential arrest, instructing them to immediately enter the Palayam Area Committee Office instead.
Even after creating terror by damaging the cars of the ED officials, the attackers remained at the spot for some time. When more police forces arrived, they started walking towards Bakery Junction. The police followed them and managed to detain one person near Bakery Junction.
By then, a group of workers led by SFI State Secretary P.S. Sanjeev arrived at the scene in a protest march and entered into an argument with the police. It was during this commotion that the attackers received the initial order to head to the AKG Centre.
As they were moving towards the AKG Centre, they received another phone call. The caller warned them that they wouldn't make it there in time and would be caught, ordering them to rush into the Palayam Area Committee Office instead. Following this, the workers ran into the Area Committee Office at Panjapura Junction. The police subsequently surrounded the office.
