BJP received help from Congress in targeting Pinarayi Vijayan, will survive this challenge as well: CPM
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM state secretariat said in a statement that the raids at the house of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan were part of a political vendetta. The party said the BJP should not believe that such actions could weaken Pinarayi Vijayan, his movement, or the Left movement in Kerala. “The central government has been using central agencies as weapons to eliminate political opponents for the past several years,” the CPM said. The party also warned that strong protests would rise against these actions.
The CPM further alleged that the BJP was receiving support and cooperation from the Congress in targeting Pinarayi Vijayan. “The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, repeatedly came to Kerala and questioned why the ED was not arresting Pinarayi Vijayan,” the statement said.
The party also pointed out that the ED action came immediately after Chief Minister V D Satheesan met the Prime Minister and Union Ministers in Delhi. According to the CPM, this should also be viewed in the same context. The statement compared the situation to the actions taken against Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi, alleging that the BJP and central agencies acted against him with Congress support.
The CPM claimed that both the BJP and Congress had, at different times, tried to politically and physically eliminate Pinarayi Vijayan. “This is another chapter in the long history of political revenge against him since the Emergency period,” the statement said. The party added that Pinarayi Vijayan and the Left movement had overcome similar challenges in the past and would survive this one as well.
The CPM also said there was no objection to investigating any case related to CMRL in any manner. However, it alleged that the repeated actions were politically motivated, something that had already been pointed out by higher courts.
“The Vigilance Court, High Court, and Supreme Court have all made observations regarding this,” the statement claimed.
At the same time, the CPM alleged that two current members of the state cabinet had received money from CMRL, and that the company itself had confirmed it. The party claimed those ministers had also admitted it, yet no action had been taken against them.
