Pinarayi alleges protocol violation after DGP enters Assembly with Governor
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday raised a protocol violation issue in the Kerala Assembly during the first policy address of the UDF government. The controversy erupted after State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar accompanied Governor Rajendra Arlekar into the Assembly hall.
Under existing Assembly rules, the DGP is not permitted to enter the House. Ravada Chandrasekhar had accompanied the Governor, who arrived to deliver the policy address, and later exited through another route after entering the Assembly.
Raising the issue in the House, Pinarayi Vijayan described the incident as unprecedented and a clear violation of Assembly protocol. He pointed out that the DGP has no authority to enter the Assembly hall under the rules.
Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan also responded to the matter in the House. He said the issue had come to his attention and suggested that the DGP may have entered the Assembly by mistake. Later, speaking to the media, Pinarayi Vijayan said he believed the incident may have occurred unintentionally. However, he added that such a situation should not normally happen and expressed hope that the Speaker would discuss the matter with the DGP.
