Terror in Kayamkulam: Four-month-old baby among four mauled by stray dogs
KAYAMKULAM: Panic gripped the residents of Pullukulangara, near Kayamkulam, following a series of aggressive stray dog attacks on Tuesday that left four people injured, including a four-month-old infant.
According to local sources, the most shocking incident occurred near Arattukulangara when a stray dog lunged at a four-month-old baby boy, Aarav, who was being held by his grandmother. The infant sustained injuries to his leg, while his grandmother, identified as 65-year-old Rajamma, was also severely bitten while trying to shield the child. Relatives and onlookers rushed to their aid and immediately shifted them to the Kayamkulam Taluk Hospital. Medical authorities reported that while the child’s injuries are serious, his condition is currently stable.
In a separate but nearly simultaneous incident in the nearby Ponnuruat area of Pullukulangara, two more individuals fell victim to the canine menace. A woman named Rasheeda (44) and her 16-year-old daughter, Amana, were viciously attacked by a stray dog while they were walking along the public road.
Both mother and daughter sustained bite wounds and were also admitted to the Kayamkulam Taluk Hospital for emergency medical care and anti-rabies treatment. Local residents expressed deep distress over the situation, noting that the victims were severely shaken by the sudden and unprovoked attack.
The back-to-back incidents have triggered massive public outrage in the area. Local residents have strongly condemned the local administration and concerned authorities for their absolute failure to implement effective stray dog management measures. Community members alleged that despite several people being attacked and injured in the locality over the past few days, the authorities have turned a blind eye and taken no tangible steps to ensure public safety, making even routine commutes dangerous for pedestrians.
