MP High Court intervenes in model Twisha Sharma case, directs AIIMS to conduct second autopsy
NEW DELHI: In a significant development in the mysterious death of model and actress Twisha Sharma, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has authorised a second autopsy of her body. Overturning a prior rejection by a Bhopal court, the High Court directed an expert medical board from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, to conduct the re-examination following a petition by the victim’s family.
The family sought the second post-mortem citing glaring discrepancies in the initial autopsy report and undue delays by the police in filing a First Information Report (FIR). Alleging that severe dowry harassment and mental torture drove Twisha to suicide, the family also noted in their complaint that the investigating officers initially failed to recover or produce the materials purportedly used in the hanging.
During the hearing, the family’s counsel raised serious questions over the initial medical evaluation, pointing out that visible injuries on Twisha's body were omitted from the detailed autopsy report. Furthermore, the counsel highlighted a major contradiction regarding the victim's height, which varied significantly between the police record and the first post-mortem report.
Amidst these legal proceedings, the victim’s husband, Samarth Singh—who has been evading arrest since the incident—withdrew his anticipatory bail plea from the High Court. Singh’s legal counsel stated that his client intends to surrender before a trial court to seek bail.
Twisha Sharma, a Noida native, was found hanging at her in-laws' residence on May 12. The couple, who met via a dating app in 2024, were married in December 2025. While preliminary findings noted bruises on her body, newly surfaced WhatsApp conversations between Twisha and her mother, Rekha Sharma, have shed light on her domestic distress. In those messages, the actress reportedly described herself as "trapped" in an unhappy marriage, detailing systemic mental abuse and escalating dowry demands. A police investigation remains underway.
