IMD issues rain alert in Kerala: Heavy showers and 50 km/h winds predicted from Thursday
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning predicting heavy rainfall across Kerala starting Thursday. According to the alert, isolated heavy showers are expected from May 14 to May 16. The weather office also cautioned that wind speeds could reach up to 50 km/h during this period.
In a bulletin released at 5:30 PM, the IMD issued an Orange Alert for Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod districts for the next three hours. These areas are likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 50 km/h.
The weather department noted that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into parts of the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands by the end of this week.
Currently, a low-pressure area persists over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. Forecasters expect this system to intensify further within the next 48 hours, contributing to the increased rainfall activity across the region.
