Final wish honoured: Prafulla laid to rest beside Mani in Tirunelveli
KASARAGOD: In a heart-wrenching conclusion to a tragic love story, 26-year-old Prafulla has been laid to rest alongside her fiancé in Tamil Nadu, fulfilling the final wish she left behind in a suicide note.
Prafulla, a resident of Kumbla, was found dead at her home this past Sunday. Family sources say she had been unable to overcome the grief following the untimely death of her fiancé, Mani (30), who died two months ago from injuries sustained in a road accident.
The couple’s journey began in Palakkad, where Prafulla was pursuing a degree in Hotel Management and Mani worked for a finance firm. Their professional paths crossed frequently, eventually blossoming into a relationship. Nine months ago, the couple formalised their commitment with an engagement, planning to marry before the onset of this year's monsoon once Mani’s employment was made permanent.
However, those dreams were shattered in January when a vehicle struck Mani’s motorcycle. Despite a weeks-long battle for his life in the hospital, he passed away, leaving Prafulla devastated.
In her final note, Prafulla expressed a singular desire: to be buried at the same site as Mani in his hometown of Tirunelveli. In a rare show of communal empathy and shared grief, both families agreed to honour the request.
On Monday afternoon, Prafulla’s body was transported from Kasaragod to Tamil Nadu. There, in a quiet ceremony on the family’s property, she was laid to rest beside the man she had hoped to spend her life with. Prafulla is survived by her parents, Jayanandan and Devi, and two siblings.
