Benz GT 63 SE worth 4.19 crores and SL 55 Roadster worth 3.10 crores collide in Kochi during test drive; no death despite heavy crash
KOCHI: Benz cars collided after losing control during test drive. Along with these cars worth crores, a Hyundai Accent car was also involved in the accident. Miraculously, five people including a woman escaped. One person's leg was seriously injured. Ernakulam natives Ashwin Deepak, Suraj, Sachin, and Sajimon were injured. Ashwin was injured in the leg. All four were admitted to a private hospital in Kochi.
The accident happened at Willingdon Island in Ernakulam at 3.10 pm yesterday. Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 55 Roadster, AMG GT 63SE cars and a Hyundai Accent car were involved in the accident.
The GT 63SE car driven by Sarath, a native of Tripunithura, caused the accident. The car was speeding towards Willingdon Island from the railway gate side. On reaching the Kendriya Vidyalaya side, the car lost control after hitting an old railway track crossing the road. The Hyundai Accent car was the first to be hit. The GT 63 SE car, which moved to the right on the impact of the crash, ran into the oncoming SL 55 Roadster. Ashwin was test-driving this car. Sajimon, a resident of Ernakulam Kureekad, was driving the Hyundai Accent car. The GT 63SE car's front end was completely destroyed. The front wheel of the SL 55 Roadster was blown off. It was the passers-by who took the accident victims to the hospital.
A case was registered on Sajimon's complaint and an investigation started. Four cars were brought to the island for a test drive from a prominent Benz dealership in Kochi.

The AMG SL 55 Roadster was launched on June 22 last year. The base model is priced at Rs 3.10 crore. The AMG GT 63SE was also launched in April last year. 4.19 crore in Kerala.
