Lovers posing as couple arrested for stealing money, ornaments

CHERTHALA: The police arrested a 43-year-old domestic help along with her lover for allegedly stealing cash, gold and other items from a house in Alappuzha. The two posed as a couple. The two have been identified as Jijo (38) of Kottayam Porathodu Pothala House and Suja Binoy (43) of Mundakayam Karyat House. A police team led by Arthungal circle inspector P G Madhu arrested the two. The two were working in the house of Shiji Jinesh at Chethi in Alappuzha.

Jijo and Suja came for the job seeing a newspaper ad for a couple to look after Shiji’s mother-in-law. The two were living in Shiji’s house from November 2021. When Shiji's husband, who was abroad, came home for their daughter's wedding, noticed the theft of gold and other items. They stole goods worth Rs 5,32,500 including gold chain, gas cylinders, iron gate, laptop, bronze utensils, clothes and carpets. The money they got after selling all these things were spent in buying a scooter and other things. The police recovered the gold pledged from a private money exchange in Mararikulam. Sub inspector Sajeev Kumar, grade sub inspector Shalini, grade senior civil police officers Sudhi and Baiju were also in the investigation team. The two produced in the Cherthala court have been remanded.
