Govt spent Rs 1.14 cr on Kerala State Youth Commission in less than two years

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Saji Cheriyan told the Assembly that Rs 1.14 crore was spent on Kerala State Youth Commission after the second Pinarayi government came to power. Rs 1 crore was spent on staff salaries and members' honorarium and Rs 14.27 lakh on office expenses. Rs 22.66 lakh was paid in 2021-22 as rent for the cars taken by the commission chairman and for office purposes. In 2022-23, Rs 1 crore was allotted to the commission. Of this, Rs 53 lakhs were given, of which, Rs 45.28 lakhs was spent as commission expenses.

Chintha Jerome, who has been serving as the commission chairman for six years for two terms, has received Rs 67.37 lakh as salary. She received Rs 52,000 as sitting fee, Rs 1.26 lakh as travel allowance and Rs 21,990 as newspaper allowance. A contract vehicle is now being used as the official vehicle has been damaged in an accident.
