THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Pattayam Mission, implemented by the Revenue Department with the aim of providing land to all deserving people will be inaugurated in April. The aim is to make the title deed (pattayam) available to all eligible people in the state within the next three years.

Steps have been taken to settle 1342 existing cases in various land boards of the state. Once these cases are over, 23,000 acres of land can be acquired and distributed to the landless. More than 18,000 families living in around 1200 colonies in Kerala have been found to have not received title deeds. Their comprehensive data will be prepared with the help of MLAs and others. Assistance will be given to families who have not applied for title deeds. Many of the colonies where the local bodies bought land and built houses are still in the name of the previous owner in the land revenue records. The Pattayam Mission will also take steps to solve such issues.

The government will examine whether title deeds can be given to people living on land acquired by the government for various projects, which were later shelved and lands from a certain distance of irrigation projects. It will solve the problem of residents of areas where ditches and ponds are mentioned in revenue records as outlying and where there is no ditch or pond when the Panchayat Raj Act comes into force.
