THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Day-to-day operations in government schools are in crisis after the state government disconnected the BSNL broadband internet connection in schools on March 31 ahead of providing a K-FON connection. The delay in getting the K-FON connection may affect the admission process in schools.

Student scholarships and school-related inquiries from government departments are all online. Apart from the installation of equipment for K-FON, no school has received an internet connection through it. It may take 2-3 months for schools to receive an internet connection through K-FON. Headmasters are currently conducting school affairs by depending on mobile phone data.

The admission process for various classes will start in the middle of May. There are more than six thousand government schools in the state. In the first week of March, the schools had received a notification stating that BSNL broadband service will end on March 31 and internet will be provided through K-FON after that. It was also directed that those who do not need K-FON service should find an internet facility on their own.
