Rs 2.11 crore to renovate Chief Minister's office

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's office and conference hall are being renovated at a cost of Rs.2,11,26,000. Public Administration Additional Chief Secretary KR Jyothilal issued an order on May 1 sanctioning Rs 60,46,000 for the renovation of the office and chamber and Rs 1,50,80,000 for the renovation of the conference hall.

Office and chamber
The interior works in the office and chamber will cost Rs 12.18 lakh. 17.42 lakhs for furniture, Chief Minister's name board, emblem, flag poles-1.56 lakhs, toilet and rest room- 1.72 lakhs, flush door with special design-1.85 lakhs, civil work including sofa- Rs 6.55 lakhs, electrical work- 4.70 lakhs, AC -11.55 lakhs, firefighting- 1.26 lakh.

Conference hall
Interior works- Rs 18.39 lakhs, furniture- 17,42 lakhs, name board, emblem- 1.51 lakhs, toilet- 1.39 lakhs, plumbing- 1.03 lakhs, kitchen appliances- 74,000, a flush door with special design- 1.85 lakhs, electrical work- 6.77 lakhs, firefighting- 1.31 lakhs, AC- 13.72 lakhs, electronic work- 79 lakhs.

The Chief Minister's office and conference hall are on the third floor of the North Block in the Secretariat. The renovation work should be carried out by the Public Works Department.

The opposition is alleging that the government is spending crores on luxuries after imposing an additional tax burden of 5000 crores on the people in the name of the financial crisis. Crores have already been spent on the Chief Minister's security, vehicles, renovation of Cliff House etc.
