Elathur train arson case: IG P Vijayan suspended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IG P Vijayan has been suspended from service pending investigation in connection with the leak of the accused's information in the Elathur train arson case. The action of the Home Department was based on the report of ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, who is in charge of law and order. Vijayan, who was the head of the anti-terrorist squad of the Kerala Police, was transferred from his post last month.

After the accused Shahrukh SaifI was taken into custody, the picture of him with burns was circulated. According to ADGP Ajith Kumar's report, Vijayan and Grade SI Manoj Kumar were in touch with the officials who brought Shahrukh Saifi from Mumbai, despite not being part of the investigation.

It is a big security breach that the accused's information, which was supposed to be delivered secretly, came out. ADGP Padmakumar will conduct a further inquiry into the report. At the same time, it is also alleged that the internal strife in the force is behind the suspension.
