'Safe School Bus' security check to be intensified
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Authorities have intensified the 'Safe School Bus' safety check to ensure the safe travel of the students. School vehicles that do not pass the fitness test will not be allowed to ply the road. The Motor Vehicle Department will mainly check for proper maintenance, cleanliness, and functioning of mechanical parts and speed governor, GPS etc.
Checking will be conducted at regular intervals. If school children are to be transported in other vehicles, the vehicle must be marked 'On School Duty'. Stickers of fitness tests must be affixed on the vehicle. Helpers must be there near the doors. They must help the children to get on and off the bus. Children should not be carried in excess of the number of seats. 2 people can be made to sit in one seat if they are below 12 years of age.

- Mirrors should be placed in such a way that the driver can see children getting in and out
- There should be a teacher or non-teaching staff on the bus
- The name and phone number of the school should be displayed on the vehicle
