Nine Chief Ministers including Pinarayi Vijayan skip NITI Aayog meeting chaired by Prime Minister
NEW DELHI: Nine Chief Ministers skipped the NITI Aayog Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The eighth council meeting of NITI Aayog was held at the new convention centre at Pragati Maidan, Delhi. 'Vikshit Bharat @2047; The theme of the meeting was 'Role of India'. The theme of the meeting was 'Viksit Bharat @2047; Role of India'.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin abstained from the meeting.

Ashok Gehlot clarified that he did not participate in the meeting due to health issues. Meanwhile, Pinarayi Vijayan did not reveal the reason for not attending the meeting. Delhi CM Kejriwal had written a letter to the Centre saying that he was boycotting the NITI Aayog meeting in protest against the Centre's special ordinance to take over the control of officials in Delhi. It is reported that K Chandrasekhar Rao did not attend the meeting as he had a meeting with Kejriwal in Hyderabad. Bhagwant Mann told the Centre that he was boycotting the meeting as the Centre is not paying attention to the interests of Punjab. Mamata Banerjee had earlier announced that she would not attend the meeting. MK Stalin is currently visiting Singapore and Japan.
