Drunk doctor collapses minutes before performing tubectomy surgery on women, suspended

BENGALURU: A doctor collapsed after reaching the operation theatre in an intoxicated state minutes before tubectomy surgeries on women. The shocking incident took place in Chikmagalur in Karnataka. Relatives of the patients filed a complaint against the doctor, Balakrishna, concerning the incident. Nine people were admitted for surgery.

The doctor was seen at the hospital since morning. Some have also alleged that he was sleeping in the operation theatre. The surgery was scheduled for two o'clock. The patients were given anesthesia. The doctor, who had gone out while giving anesthesia, returned to the operation theater around two o'clock. He collapsed while telling the staff there to get ready for surgery. The doctor was then admitted to the hospital and the surgeries were postponed.

Some of the employees say that the doctor is a regular alcoholic and has caused many such problems in the past. Following the complaint of the patients' relatives, the health department started an investigation. The doctor has been reportedly suspended.
