ODISHA: Mother arrested for selling eight-month-old baby for Rs 800. The incident took place in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. A young woman named Karami Murmu sold her daughter to a couple for 800 rupees. Police said Karami's husband was in Tamil Nadu and was unaware of the incident. Karami sold the baby to Fulamani-Akhil Marandi couple of Bipracharan village.
The incident came to light when the child's father, Musu Murmu, came home from Tamil Nadu and inquired about his second daughter. At first, Marami told her husband that the baby had died. But the neighbours told Musu about the incident of selling her daughter. Musmu reported it to the police. Karami and the couple who purchased the infant were both detained by the police yesterday.
After taking her child to the market, the mom came back by herself. She claimed that the infant was dead when the people inquired about it. The infant was moved to a daycare by the police. A case has been filed against the mother of the child.
