Two doctors killed after car driven following Google Map falls into river in Kochi, three rescued

KOCHI: Two young doctors were killed when the car carrying a five-member group fell into the overflowing river after driving the vehicle following the directions using Google Maps. Three people were rescued by the locals. The dead have been identified as Adwaith and Ajmal, doctors of a private hospital in Kodungallur. Three people, including a medical student and a nurse, were rescued from the car. Reports said the condition of the three admitted in the hospital is satisfactory. The accident happened late last night at Ernakulam Gothuruth Kadalvathuruth. The incident happened while they were returning from a party in Kochi.

As they were not familiar with the route, they were traveling following the directions using Google Maps. The car was driven very fast. The car had submerged in the river by the time the locals came rushing to the spot. There was also a strong current at this time. Ignoring the adverse conditions, the locals and the fire force immediately started rescue operations but could not save the two.

Many people are being involved in accidents while travelling following the directions of Google Maps. Five from Andhra Pradesh, who were traveling in a car following Google Maps, lost their direction and had fallen into the stream. The accident took place at Pulinkunnu in Kuttanad the other day. They went to Pulinkunnu St Mary's Forane Church from Mankombu Vikas Marg Road. They travelled on the opposite side of the road to the church. The group traveling on a narrow road fell into the stream while trying to turn the bend. All the five were rescued by the locals who saw the accident.
