Lyricist Arumughan Venkitangu passes away, his folk songs popularized Kalabhavan Mani

THRISSUR: Noted folk song lyricist Arumughan Venkitangu passed away. He was 65. He has penned around 350 folk songs.

Arumughan’s folk songs have played a major role in making Kalabhavab Mani so popular. His songs are 'Chalakudy Chantakkku Pokumbol,’ 'Pakalu Muzhuvan Paniyeduthu’ and 'Varikka Chakkede'. He has also written songs for films. He penned the song 'Kodungallurambalathil' in the 1998 film Meenakshi Kalyanam. He also penned songs for the films Udayon, The Guard, Savithriyude Aranjanam, Chandrotsavam and Rakshakan. He has also written songs for many albums and devotional songs.

He leaves behind his wife Ammini and children Sini, Siju, Shiny, Shine, Shinoy, Kannan Palazhi and son-in-laws Vijayan and Shaji and daughter-in-law Shima. He will be laid to rest at the public crematorium in Mullasseri panchayat, Thrissur at 3 pm today.
