Cigar, champagne and hugs; Mahua Moitra trolled for viral dinner party pics with Shashi Tharoor
NEW DELHI: Mahua Moitra is a Lok Sabha member from Krishnanagar, West Bengal. She is idolized, celebrated and even dubbed as the ‘fierce dame’ by online portals for her firebrand monologues and scathing oratory sessions that often reverberate the parliament. Moitra has revulsion to BJP’s politics and she never misses a chance to critique the saffron party and its leaders.
However, on early Sunday morning, the ball fell into BJP’s court as pictures of Moitra smoking a cigar and having a dinner party with congress leader Sashi Tharoor erupted the social media platform X. Sashi Tharoor was seen embracing Moitra and it was fodder for the salivating online fans of BJP. "What is cooking between Moitra and Sashi Tharoor", came one of the comments for the picture.

The pictures of the covert dinner party soon snowballed into a major issue as even neutral users (not lining up with the BJP) started trolling Sashi Tharoor and Mahua Moitra. Her hashtag also went trending on Twitter which forced the TMC MP to train guns at BJP’s online trolls. Mahua accused BJP-sponsored troll pages of wilily cropping the full image and picturing it in such a way as to show that she was on a rendevous.
Mahua Moitra also denied smoking cigars, as she was ‘allergic’ to smoking. She clarified saying that it was only for fun that she posed with a cigar. In the pic, it is also seen the TMC MP raising a toast with Congress leader Sashi Tharoor.
Meanwhile, Moitra has dared the BJP to publish the full-size image rather than resorting to pretty vile tactics to demean her.
