BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that those who own agricultural lands in Kanakapura should not sell the land to traders in Bengaluru. He was speaking at a program organized at a temple in his constituency Kanakapura the other day.

He said that Kanakapura will soon merge with Bengaluru and with that, the price of land in Kanakapura will skyrocket. DK Shivakumar is a Congress leader who contested and won eight times from Kanakapura.

Addressing the gathering, Shivakumar said, "You are not from Ramanagara district. You are from the Bengaluru district. Let that sink in your mind. What did I say? You are from Bengaluru district."

"So far, the governments have not been able to pay enough money or build houses for the voters of Kanakapura constituency. However, God has given us the ability to increase the value of the land in Kanakapura tenfold. The villages of Kanakapura will soon become part of Bengaluru. Then the traders will pay good prices for the lands in Kanakapura," Shivakumar said.

Kanakapura, about 55 km from Bengaluru, currently comes under the Ramanagara district that was created in 2007 when HD Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) was the chief minister. Before 2007, Kanakapura was under Bengaluru Rural district.
