‘All preparations including painting was completed for wedding, marriage called off after demanded more dowry’; reveals Shehna’s family
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More information has surfaced in connection with the suicide of a young doctor of medial college. The family of the doctor identified as Shehna revealed that she committed suicide following the cancellation of her marriage. Her family alleged that her marriage was fixed when she was doing her first degree in post-graduation and was called off over a dispute on dowry.
All work including the painting of the house was completed. Her family also alleged that the groom's family came home demanding a huge amount as dowry. However, her family could not afford it. So, the marriage was called off. Her brother said that she was upset and depressed. The police have recorded the statement of her relatives. Based on this, the police are proceeding with the investigation.
Her suicide note validates the allegations of her family. 'Vapa has gone, I am left alone, I don’t have anyone to pay a huge amount as dowry. Love has no price on this earth. Everything is for money,' mentioned her suicide note recovered from the room. The police will probe the allegations of her relatives as part of the investigation. Shehna's mobile phone will also be subjected for an examination.
Shehna (27, a second year post graduate student of surgery department and daughter of late Abdul Aziz of Naz Manzil, Maitri Nagar in Venjaramoodu and Jameela, committed suicide the other day. She was found dead in her flat in a search conducted after she failed to report for night duty.
