Rains to continue as low pressure in Arabian Sea turns into cyclonic circulation, alert sounded in seven districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the low pressure formed in the Arabian Sea has turned into a cyclonic circulation, rains are likely in Kerala till January 5, the Meteorological Department has said. A yellow alert was announced in seven districts on Thursday and two districts on Friday and the day after. Yellow alert today is sounded in Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Rain is likely in Idukki and Palakkad districts tomorrow and Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts on Saturday.

According to the notification of the Meteorological Department, the low pressure over the South-Eastern Arabian Sea has weakened into a cyclonic system. A low pressure area is present from up to South Karnataka. As a result of this, there is a possibility of moderate rain in Kerala for the next five days. The Indian Meteorological Department has informed that fishing is allowed in Kerala-Karnataka coasts and but not in Lakshadweep area. Strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely in Lakshadweep area till tomorrow with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and on some occasions up to 55 kmph.

Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts are likely to experience light to moderate rain at isolated places with gusty winds of up to 40 kmph during the next 3 hours; According to the IMD, light rain is likely at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
