Balachandra Menon celebrates 70th birthday; Assures new movie for fans
KOCHI: Balachandra Menon, the veteran of Malayalam cinema celebrated his 70th birthday by assuring fans that their wishes for a new film are about to come true. Skipping the usual festivities, he embarked on a journey hinting at an upcoming project with details to be announced soon.
In addition to the film, Menon has another venture in the works called 'Clap to Claps.' This film training initiative draws from his 47 years of experience in the industry, offering courses in acting, screenwriting, directing and more. Menon is confident that both endeavours will come to fruition this year.
Born on January 11, 1954, in Edava, Kollam, Menon, a law graduate with a journalism diploma spent several years in Kochi. Reflecting on his 70th birthday, he shared that it passed without the usual celebrations but with numerous well-wishes from admirers.
With a diverse career spanning story-writing, screenplay, dialogue, direction, songwriting, music composition, singing, acting, production and distribution, Menon directed 40 successful films occasionally taking on acting roles. Notably, he directed Mammootty in 'Nayam Vyakthamakunnu' while focusing primarily on direction. He has received accolades including the Padma Shri, Filmfare Award, National and State Awards. His family includes his wife Varada Menon and children Bhavana Menon and Akhil Menon.
